The Stadtgarten underground station is a tunnel station of the Dortmund Stadtbahn in downtown Dortmund . It is the southern of three crossing stations of the light rail system, where the trunk lines I and II intersect.
history
The station was opened in connection with the opening of the tunnel section of the first trunk line on June 2, 1984, and is therefore one of the oldest light rail tunnel stations in Dortmund. The lower part of the station (−2 level) was opened on September 26, 1992 together with the tunnel section of the trunk line II and was the southern terminus of the U42 line for several years. After this was extended by one station to Städtische Kliniken in 1995 , the tunnel route towards the Westfalenhallen and Westfalenstadion was put into operation. On June 2, 1996, Stadtgarten opened via Saarlandstrasse to the police headquarters , where a new line - U 46 - was introduced that temporarily ran to Grevel instead of the U42. After the opening of the police headquarters - Westfalenhallen and Städtische Kliniken - Hombruch sections, today's routes starting from Stadtgarten were completed.

The underground station is served by a total of six lines of the Dortmund Stadtbahn . The lines U41, U45, U47 and U49 all serve the main station in the north .
