The Brilon Stadt train station (also known as the city train station) is one of four passenger train stations in operation in the North Rhine-Westphalian city of Brilon . It is centrally located to the city center of Brilon. The station building and the former freight shed of the station have been listed since 2009 .

The Brilon Stadt station was put into operation on December 1, 1898 with the first section of the Möhnetalbahn from Belecke to Brilon by the Westfälische Landes-Eisenbahn (WLE). Exactly one year later the extension from Belecke to Soest took place .

On April 1, 1901, the Büren - Brilon Wald section of the Almetalbahn went into operation. As a result, the Brilon Stadt railway station became the separation station for two railway lines.

Scheduled passenger traffic on the Möhnetalbahn ended on September 26, 1958 between Belecke and Brilon. Freight traffic between Brilon and Heidberg continued until February 28, 1979. The tracks were dismantled the following year.

On the route from Brilon Wald via Brilon Stadt, Thülen , Alme and Büren to Paderborn Hbf , passenger traffic was stopped on September 29, 1974. The freight traffic between Brilon Wald and the Egger company in Brilon was retained and is still operated regularly today.

Museum railway traffic has been taking place on the Brilon Stadt - Büren (Westf) -Weinberg section in the summer months since 1981 . Because of the lack of a platform in Brilon Stadt since 2008 , the trains of the museum railway have only run as far as Thülen. Operation of the museum railway was stopped in 2014. The reason for this was a lack of a general inspection of the vehicles.

In 2007, the tracks between Brilon Wald and Brilon Egger were rehabilitated because the Egger company has an increased need for service and the rehabilitation of the tracks was a condition for expanding the Brilon location.

In 2008, tracks 1 and 4-8 were then demolished in Brilon Stadt station. The “Brilon Arkaden” shopping center was built on the former track area . There are only two tracks left in Brilon Stadt.

At the end of 2008, the Ministry of Building and Transport of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia promised to include the Brilon Stadt train station in the infrastructure financing plan, on condition that the Ruhr-Lippe Association (ZRL) also provide local rail transport for the railway line from Brilon Wald to Brilon Stadt ordered. The ZRL confirmed this with a resolution of June 23, 2009. After several postponements, for the 2011/2012 timetable change, local rail passenger transport (SPNV) on the Brilon Stadt – Brilon Wald section was resumed on December 11, 2011 , with the first train running on December 10. Since then, through trains have been running to Dortmund and Marburg .

building

The station building and goods shed were sold to private customers. The reception building was partially used for catering purposes, and offices have been located in the goods shed since 2010 after renovation and conversion work.

Track systems

Until it was dismantled in 2008, Brilon Stadt station had extensive track systems. Only one platform track (track 2) and a platform-free track (track 3) on which freight trains can be parked are left.

When the Brilon Stadt station was reactivated, a barrier-free platform was built north of the previous platform . At the same time, a new central bus station was created.

Originally there were two intermediate platforms on the adjacent tracks in addition to the main platform, access was at ground level via the tracks. There were also three tracks without a platform, on the easternmost track there was a head and side ramp.

WLE

The Möhnetalbahn ran from the north to the station, the WLE trains also used the state train station. The two westernmost tracks belonged to the WLE, one track led to the goods shed, the other to the house platform. To the north of the station, the WLE had a two-tier locomotive shed, the access of which led to the main track.

business

The Brilon Stadt train station, like the core city of Brilon, belongs to the Westphalian tariff (WT). The authority responsible for local rail passenger transport is the Zweckverband SPNV Ruhr-Lippe (ZRL).
