history

Burgwald-Birkenbringhausen, Ev.-Luth. church

The place was first mentioned in a document in 1249. In 1999 the place celebrated its 750th anniversary.

As part of the regional reform in Hesse , the municipalities of Birkenbringhausen, Ernsthausen and Wiesenfeld voluntarily merged to form a municipality called Burgwald on July 1, 1971 . For Birkenbringhausen, as for the other formerly independent municipalities, a local district with a local advisory council and local council was formed.

The nave at the Protestant church was built in 1934–36 by the Marburg architect Karl Rumpf, while windows were also created for the choir by the Marburg glass painter Erhardt Klonk.

Place name "Ratzverbrenner"

The local name Ratzverbrenner explains itself as follows. Ratz is the regional name of the polecat, whose behavior includes chasing domestic fowl. The following true story is told about this. While most of the population was outside working in the fields, a Ratz was discovered in the village. This fled into a brushwood pile. Thereupon it was decided to pursue the poultry thief by infecting the dry brushwood pile. However, the fire soon spread and the houses in the neighborhood caught fire and burned down. Because of the dry year, there was little water to extinguish and most people had to rush from the field to the village to extinguish the fire. Therefore, the fire damage was quite large. It is said that the Ratz managed to flee unscathed despite the persecution.
