The Cölbe station is a through station on the Main-Weser Railway in Cölbe . Here the Obere Lahntalbahn branch off from the main line to Erndtebrück via Biedenkopf and Bad Laasphe and the Burgwaldbahn to Frankenberg via Wetter and Münchhausen . In addition to the platform-free main track of the Main-Weser-Bahn to the north, there are another four tracks that can be reached via two platforms .

The neo-baroque station is a cultural monument in accordance with the Hessian Monument Protection Act .

history

The not yet renovated platform on tracks 3 and 4

The trains of the Main-Weser-Bahn , which opened in 1852, have also stopped in Cölbe since 1869. Over time, the importance of the station increased. Particularly with the opening of the Upper Lahn Valley Railway and the Burgwald Railway , the volume of people and goods increased. North of the station there were siding to companies that loaded their goods there. Today, however, all freight tracks have been dismantled. With a few exceptions, Cölbe is only served by regional trains for passenger transport. After the platform on tracks 1 and 2 had fallen so badly that it could no longer be entered, it had to be closed and replaced. In autumn 2010 it was paved and raised by the Kurhessenbahn . The platform on tracks 3 and 4 is also to be renewed in the medium term.

Location / transport links

The Cölbe train station is on the eastern edge of the town of the same name on the L 3089. In addition to the reception building, there are a few P + R parking lots and the Cölbe Bahnhof bus stop , where the MR-72, 481 and 482 bus lines stop. The train station is connected to the town center by a pedestrian overpass on the L 3089.

Reception building

The station building was built according to a design by Alois Holtmeyer in 1908. On the side facing west of the route there is an L-shaped plastered building with a mansard roof , to which a T-shaped, simpler and lower extension is connected to the south.

Today the building is used by the municipality of Cölbe as an administration building. To get to the tracks you have to walk around the building as the underpass is behind it.

Tracks

The Cölbe station today has five tracks, four of which have a platform. The two outer platform tracks (3 and 4) and the continuous main track of the Main-Weser-Bahn to the north (track 5) are only used by trains on this route. Platform 2 can be used by all trains. However, only trains to Bad Laasphe / Erndtebrück or Frankenberg (Eder) / Korbach / Brilon Wald or Brilon Stadt stop there . Track 1 cannot be used by trains of the Main-Weser-Bahn due to the lack of switch connections, the trains of the Oberen Lahntalbahn and the Burgwaldbahn to Marburg (Lahn) run here . The commercial connections used to branch off from this track.

The station has two central platforms :

  • A central platform is located between tracks 1 and 2 and belongs to the Kurhessenbahn . For a long time it was extremely shabby and too low for the trains. After the edge of the platform partly no longer existed and it became more and more dangerous when boarding trains, it had to be completely closed at the beginning of 2010 and replaced by a makeshift platform on track 1. When the Burgwaldbahn was modernized in autumn 2010, this also affected the platform of the Kurhessenbahn in Cölbe station. It was paved, provided with glass shelters and tactile guide strips for the blind and raised to 76 cm on the side of platform 2. The platform edge on track 1 remains at a height of 55 cm.
  • The other central platform is between tracks 3 and 4. It is also to be renewed and raised in the medium term. All Main-Weser-Bahn trains stop there.

Track access

The platform of tracks 1 and 2 (renovated in 2010)

The stairway access to the underpass to the two central platforms is on the side of the reception building facing the track. There is also a ticket machine and an information board with timetables. There is no house platform .

Signal box

The station in Cölbe had three signal boxes : the dispatcher signal box "Cf" was at the level of the route kilometer 100.6 of the Main-Weser-Bahn on the side of the track facing away from the station building, the signal box "Cn" was in the route kilometer 99.8 of the same route between the railway systems and the old federal highway 3 running parallel. The signal box "Cw" was at the exit towards Sarnau in km 88.1 of the Oberen Lahntalbahn directly at the level crossing of the former federal highway 3 on the side of the loading street.

When the new "Mf" pushbutton interlocking was put into operation in Marburg station in 1969 , Cölbe station was integrated into it as a remote control area. Since then there have been no signaling systems of their own in Cölbe. The three old signal box buildings were demolished over time. The "Cn" signal box was the model for an H0 kit from Kibri (model number 9488).

passenger traffic

Cölbe train station is served every hour by the Mittelhessen-Express (RB 41). This runs on the Main-Weser-Bahn between Treysa and Frankfurt Hbf . Also in Treysa, some regional trains on the Treysa – MarburgGießen route start during rush hour . Furthermore, the regional trains 42 and 43 operated by the Kurhessenbahn stop, which also run every hour on the branching branch lines upper Lahntalbahn and Burgwaldbahn and end at Marburg (Lahn) station. Thus, Cölbe has direct train connections to Frankenberg (Eder) , Biedenkopf , Bad Laasphe , Erndtebrück , Korbach , Brilon , Treysa , Marburg , Gießen , Friedberg and Frankfurt am Main . Especially since the Kurhessenbahn took over passenger transport on the two branch lines in 2002, there has been a growing number of passengers. This is mainly due to the more modern railcars , the denser frequency and the modernized stops along the lines.

Freight transport

Freight traffic has not existed at Cölbe station since the 1990s. Until then, goods from local companies were loaded in the northern area of the station. Today only the loading ramps and larger open areas on which the loading tracks once lay testify to the once extensive freight traffic .
