geography

Habinghorst connects to the north of Castrop-Rauxel city center. Habinghorst borders the Pöppinghausen district in the west and the Emscher forms the border with the Henrichenburg district in the north . In the east, Habinghorst has grown together with the Ickern district. The district consists to a large extent of densely populated residential areas.

history

Habinghorst is originally an old Westphalian farming community and historically belonged to the County of Mark . Habinghorst formed a rural community in the Dortmund district in the Prussian province of Westphalia since the 19th century . The community belonged to the Castrop office until 1902 and since then to the Rauxel office. On April 1, 1926, Habinghorst was one of the founding communities of the new town of Castrop-Rauxel.

The trigger for the strong population growth at the end of the 19th century were the mines in the neighboring communities of Bladenhorst and Ickern , for whose miners Habinghorst became the main residential area. In the first decades of the 20th century, Habinghorst became one of the focal points of factory-bound housing construction in the Ruhr area .
