The Castrop office , also spelled Amt Kastrop in the 19th century , was an office in the Dortmund district .

The office was established as Mayor Castrop in 1817 as the successor to Mairie Castrop, who in turn was founded a few years earlier under French rule in the Ruhr department of the Grand Duchy of Berg and was assigned to the canton of Dortmund in the Dortmund arrondissement . Prussia provisionally administered the Grand Duchy after the French had withdrawn in the Generalgouvernement of Berg before it was finally awarded the territory of the Grand Duchy at the Congress of Vienna . After the founding of the Province of Westphalia , Prussia introduced its own administrative structures, initially largely maintaining the French administrative structure. The mayor's office of Castrop was assigned to the Dortmund district, which in turn succeeded the Dortmund arrondissement.

Two tax communities belonged to the mayor's office, which consisted of 26 peasant communities , some of which were in turn combined to form eleven or 13 rural communities (contemporary notation):

The farming communities Sodingen and Giesenberg were merged in 1841 to form the rural community of Giesenberg-Sodingen, which was later only called Giesenberg. Goldsmithing went up in Rauxel between 1819 and 1841.

In 1843 the mayor's office was converted to a Westphalian office due to the Prussian rural community order for the province of Westphalia from 1841 . In 1887 the office consisted of the following municipalities (contemporary notation):
