Merklinde ( Low German Meärklinne ) has been a district of Castrop-Rauxels since its incorporation on April 1, 1926 and is located on the southern border with Dortmund , district of Lütgendortmund . To the west joins the former peasantry Bövinghausen , whose north belongs to Castrop-Rauxel, but whose south already belongs to Dortmund.

Historical

The historical origin of today's Merklinde district is the Merklinde farmers, who were first mentioned as Mediclinne around 1150 in the register of the Werden monastery . Like Frohlinde, she belongs to the Linne farming community. The meaning medic is not clearly clarified. Hermann Jellinghaus offers the interpretation small , which could apply to the size of the peasantry. Merklinde originally formed a closed settlement of nine farms that were surrounded by 652 acres of loess and fruit-rich fields.

In Merklinde there was a rumor for a long time that the peasantry had a manor. In fact, a Merklinder farm was dependent on Haus Bladenhorst . In 1332 the Knight von Düngelen built a chapel next to his Bladenhorst Castle, which he furnished with the Thedingsgut in Merklinde, which he had acquired after the von Castrop family of knights had died out. In connection with the Thedingsgut, 1500 names appear shortly before and after that indicate noble owners. To be mentioned here is z. B. Wessel von Merklinne, who was married to Else von Overncastrop-Lakenburg. The Theding estate lost its aristocratic character in the 16th century and became a farm.

The mining industry in the Ruhr caused an upswing between 1880 and 1960: numerous miners moved from the eastern German territories to work in the four surrounding mines. Local traditional companies were the Leßmöllmann brickworks, Jos’s forge. Klonder (demolished in 2016) and the Büchter grain distillery.

The Castrop-Rauxel-Merklinde stop is on the Duisburg-Ruhrort-Dortmund line , which is served hourly by trains on the RB 43 Emschertalbahn line (to Dortmund Hbf in the east and Herne , Wanne-Eickel Hbf , Gladbeck Ost , Dorsten in the west). Merklinde is connected to the public transport network by bus lines 364 (towards Bochum and Castrop city center) and 378 (towards Dortmund west, Ruhr University Bochum and also Castrop city center) . The railway freight line from Dortmund-Bövinghausen to Bochum Nord station, which has been closed since the 1970s and which was primarily used to develop the Lothringen colliery in Bochum-Gerthe , runs through Merklinde in an east-west direction . Another line, also closed since the 1970s and now largely dismantled, was the connection between the Graf Schwerin colliery in the Castrop-Rauxel suburb of Schwerin and the freight yard in Dortmund-Bövinghausen. Between the two routes there was a connection in the form of a track triangle between Bockenfelder Strasse and Wittener Strasse.

Merklinde is on the B 235 , which runs from Senden and Münster in the north to Witten in the south. The road cuts through Castrop-Rauxel in a north-south direction and provides the direct connection between Merklinde and the Castrop-Rauxel districts of Henrichenburg , Habinghorst , Rauxel and Castrop . The Merklinde industrial estate with a total area of approx. 30 ha is the location for production, services, logistics and industrial services. Here are u. a. the companies Thimm Verpackung GmbH (headquarters in Northeim), Kunststoffverarbeitung L. Risse, ALSCO work clothing service (headquarters in Cologne), Otto Klostermann GmbH and Parkett Hinterseer, formerly Sudhoff, are located.

The commercial supply for the daily needs of the population has always been limited in Merklinde. Merklinde has neither a resident doctor nor a pharmacy. The branch of the Stadtsparkasse was closed in spring 2016, a grocery store no longer exists since the end of the 1990s; two kiosks and some grocery delivery services cannot fill the supply gap. Since March 2019 there has been a medium-sized Turkish supermarket, the Naz Market, in the premises of the former post office in Harkortstrasse. The next grocery stores and discounters are only beyond the city limits of Dortmund in Bövinghausen . In 2016, the last pub, Altdeutsche Bierstuben , closed; currently (June 2020) there are two snack bars (Greek and Turkish).

The Catholic kindergarten of St. Mary's Church is still available as educational facilities . The Friedrich-Harkort-Grundschule was closed in 2013 due to the lack of the necessary student registrations; the future use is still unclear.

In 2017 the citizens' association "Wir sind Merklinde eV" was founded in order to tackle the infrastructural problems in the detached part of the village.

Sports

The soccer club SuS Merklinde is probably the most important sports club in Merklinde. The club's soccer field is located on Fuchsweg in the extreme south of the suburb.

The ABC Merklinde billiards club is the most successful tournament billiards club in Germany. He currently plays in the highest German class, the 1st Bundesliga all-around.
