Coordinates: 35 ° 57 ' S , 148 ° 6' O Tumbarumba Shire was a local government area (LGA) in the Australian state of New South Wales . The area was 4,392 km² and last had about 3,350 inhabitants. In 2016 the Snowy Valleys Council got it going.
Tumbarumba was in the southeast of the state on the Murray River on the border with Victoria about 120 km as the crow flies southwest of the Australian capital Canberra and 470 km northeast of Melbourne . The area comprised 44 hamlets and hamlets, including Courabyra, Geehi, Greg Greg, Khancoban , Mannus, Munderoo, Ournie, Tooma, Tumbarumba and Welaregang and parts of Jingellic and Rosewood. The seat of the Shire Council was in the city of Tumbarumba in the northwest of the LGA, where about 1,500 people live.

The Tumbarumba Shire Council had eight members who were elected by LGA residents. Tumbarumba was not divided into districts. The mayor of the council was also recruited from among the councilors.
