There has been a post office in Khancoban since November 7, 1876. The place is located in the Kosciuszko National Park and is often visited by tourists who hike or play sports there, and there is also a golf course . At the Khancoban reservoir next to Khancoban there is a boat ramp and lookout points around the place. The on-site reservoir for the hydropower system is the starting point for trout fishing , boating and water sports such as rafting , canoeing and water skiing .
Khancoban has a road connection to Jindabyne , Cooma and the ski resort in Thredbo .
Snowy Mountains System
The village is located on the Swampy Plain River , which flows through the Khancoban Pondage . Murray Power Stations 1 and 2, which generate electricity from the waters of the Snowy Mountains system, are located near the village . The village of Khancoban was developed for the workers of the Snowy Mountains system in the years from 1949 to 1973.
