Thredbo

Thredbo Village is a winter sports resort with just under 400 inhabitants in the Snowy Mountains , a mountain range in New South Wales , Australia . The place is located in the valley of the Thredbo River , is close to Mount Kosciuszko , the highest mountain in Australia, and belongs to the administrative area Snowy River Shire .

history

In July 1997, 19 people were buried in a landslide; only one man was found alive after three days. His fate and the Thredbo disaster were filmed in the 2002 TV feature film Heroes' Mountain .

In January 2003, bush fires destroyed large areas of forest.
