The Thredbo River , formerly also known as the Crackenback River , is a river in the southeast of the Australian state of New South Wales
It rises below the Dead Horse Gap , a pass on the Alpine Way . The river valley runs parallel to the valley of the Snowy River around eight kilometers southeast in a northeast direction. The only settlement in the valley is Thredbo Village , a well-known winter sports resort.
The Thredbo River flows into Lake Jindabyne and thus into the Snowy River.
