Coordinates: 36 ° 22 ′ S , 148 ° 50 ′ E Snowy River Shire was a local government area (LGA) in the Australian state of New South Wales . The area was 6,030 km² and last had about 7,500 inhabitants. In 2016, the Snowy Monaro Regional Council made a difference.
Snowy River was in the southeast of the state on the border with Victoria about 150 km south of the Australian capital Canberra . The area comprised 83 hamlets and hamlets, including Old Adaminaby , Anglers Reach, Berridale, Blue Cow , Dalgety , Eucumbene, Guthega , Ingebyra, Jimenbuen, Jindabyne , Kiandra , Numbla Vale, Perisher Valley , Smiggin Holes and Thredbo, and parts of Adaminaby and Cooma . The seat of the Shire Council was in the town of Berridale in the center of the LGA, which currently has about 960 inhabitants.

The Snowy River Shire Council had nine members who were elected by LGA residents. Snowy River was not divided into districts. The mayor of the council was also recruited from among the councilors.
