Coordinates: 30 ° 42 ′ S , 151 ° 2 ′ E The Tamworth Region is a local government area (LGA) in the Australian state of New South Wales . The area is 9,884.4 km² and has about 60,000 inhabitants.
Tamworth is located in the northeast of the state about 420 km north of the metropolis of Sydney and 570 km southwest of Brisbane . The area comprises 82 hamlets and towns, including Barraba , Bective, Bendemeer, Bowling Alley Point, Coledale, Daruka, Dungowan, Duri, Hanging Rock, Hillvue, Kingswood, Kootingal, Limbri, Manilla , Upper Manilla, Moore, Nemingha, Nundle, Somerton , Taminda, Tamworth , Tintinhull, Warral, Watsons Creek, Weabonga, Westdale and Woolomin as well as parts of Attunga, Calala, Moonbi and Woolbrook. The council's administrative headquarters are in the town of Tamworth in the center of the LGA, which is home to around 34,000 residents.

The Tamworth Regional Council has nine members who are elected by LGA residents. The Tamworth Region is not divided into districts. The mayor of the council is also recruited from among the councilors.
