Kunama hat

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Kunama Hut was the name of a former ski area and ski hut in Australia on Mount Clark on the south side of the Kosciuszko Mountains in New South Wales . The ski area goes back to the year 1920. Skiers and hikers used the hut, which offered them a shower with hot water and catering with food and accommodation. Ski races were held there in the 1950s. Skiers hiked from hut to hut in the region, also using the Kunama Hut.

On July 12, 1956, there was an avalanche that destroyed the Kunama Hut, in which eight people stayed overnight. The 20-year-old Rosely Wesche was killed, who slept in the hut. Another seven people were injured.

The Kunama Hut was rebuilt in 1957 as Illawong Lodge for ski hikers as an emergency hut . In the 1970s, however, the ski area moved to Perisher Valley and Thredbo , which was made accessible by the Skitube and ski lifts.
