The Sodinger Holz is part of the historic community of Holthausen in Herne .

In this area today's Sodinger Straße, the shafts II ("Carl" 1895) and IV (1931) of the Mont Cenis colliery , the Protestant St. John's Church (1909) and the "Glück-Auf-Stadion" of the SV Sodingen football club (1923) built. From 1912 to 1913 the “Kaiser Wilhelm Park” was built on the Beimberg. Today it is known as “Volkspark Sodingen”. A water tower was built here in 1913 to supply the mine. Since the 1930s it has only been used as a lookout tower. In 1926 the football club Arminia Sodingen found its sporting home at the tower .

After the Mont Cenis colliery was closed in 1978, the pits were filled in until 1980. From 1987 residential development took place on the site.
