Walter Legel (born June 29, 1940 in Bruck an der Leitha ; † July 4, 1999 in Deutsch-Wagram ) was an Austrian weightlifter .
Career
Legel reached 20th place in the featherweight division at the 1960 Olympic Games . It was not until twelve years later that he took part in his next Olympic Games. In 1972 he started in Munich in the lightweight category, but was disqualified after testing positive for ephedrine during doping control . At the 1973 World Championships he was ninth and seventh at the 1974 World Championships . At the European Championships in 1974 he won the bronze medal. In 1976 he reached eleventh place at his third Olympic Games , due to the disqualification of Poland's Zbigniew Kaczmarek , he was ranked tenth. At world championships he could no longer place in the top ten. At the age of forty, he took part in his fourth Olympic Games in 1980 and ended up in 16th place.
