Ernest Sterckx
Ernest Sterckx (born December 1, 1922 in Heultje ; † February 3, 1975 in Leuven ) was a Belgian cyclist .
Ernest Sterckx was a professional from 1943 to 1958. He was particularly successful in one-day races and was the prototype of the so-called " fair driver ". He achieved a total of 138 victories. Alongside Joseph Bruyère and Peter Van Petegem, he is the third cyclist to win the Omloop Het Volk three times , and he is also one of three riders who have won the Ronde van Limburg twice .
In 1949 Sterckx was eighth in Milan – Sanremo and fourth on the Tour of Flanders , in 1951 he finished eighth in Liège – Bastogne – Liège and in 1955 in Paris – Roubaix sixth.
The Ernest Sterckx-Sportcentrum Heultje is named after him in his birthplace Westerlo .
