Eva Janko

Eva Janko (born January 24, 1945 in Floing , Styria ; born Eva Egger ) is a former Austrian athlete .

Eva Janko is the daughter of a Polish woman and an Austrian who was a technician in the construction of the motorway. Eva is the second oldest of four children. Between 1966 and 1982 Janko was Austrian national champion in javelin throwing 14 times . She achieved the greatest success of her career at the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City when she won the bronze medal.

In 1966 she set the Austrian record in the javelin throw by Erika Strasser from 1961 (52.32 meters) with 53.33 meters . With her width of 61.80 m, thrown in Innsbruck on July 27, 1973 , Janko still holds the Austrian national record in javelin throw.

In 1996 she received the Gold Medal of Merit of the Republic of Austria and in 1975 the Sport of Honor from the City of St. Pölten.

Her son Marc (* 1983) is a former Austrian national soccer player.
