Erich Pointner

Erich Pointner (born August 19, 1950 in Sandl ) is a former Austrian judoka .

Athletic career

The 1.63 m tall Erich Pointner from ATSV Passage Linz was national champion three times in a row from 1973 to 1975 in the weight class up to 63 kilograms.

At the World Championships in 1971 in Ludwigshafen, Pointner was defeated in his second fight by the Dutchman Karel Gietelink . A year later he retired at the Olympic Games in Munich in his first fight after 3:16 minutes against the Yugoslav Stanko Topolčnik . In 1973 Pointner won the military world championships, in 1976 he won the silver medal. At the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal, Pointner was defeated in his first fight by the South Korean Chang Eun-kyung by a coca rating. In the hope round he defeated the Thai Pakit Santhisiri after 3:21 minutes and the Canadian Brad Farrow by a coca rating. Pointner lost the battle for bronze after 5:13 minutes against the Italian Felice Mariani .
