India took part in the 1960 Summer Olympics in the Italian capital, Rome, with a delegation of 45 male athletes in twenty competitions in six sports.

A medal (silver) could be won. The youngest athlete was the hockey player Joginder Singh (20 years and 24 days), the oldest athlete was the marksman Paul Cheema Singh (39 years and 348 days). It was the tenth Summer Olympics participation for the country.
