Dieter Rauchbach

Dieter Rauchbach (born April 9, 1934 in Naumburg ) is a former German wrestler . He was an Olympian in 1960 and a nine-time GDR champion in both styles.

Career

Dieter (Hans-Dieter) Rauchbach began wrestling as a teenager. His first club was the SC Lok Naumburg . He later moved to SC Chemie Halle , to which he belonged until the end of his career. At the beginning of his career he wrestled in both styles, from 1956 he then concentrated on the free style.

In 1954 he appeared for the first time in a list of winners at a German championship. He took part in one of the last all-German junior championships in Karlsruhe. From 1955 onwards only separate championships were held (Federal Republic of Germany and GDR). In Karlsruhe he took 4th place in the Greco-Roman style in the light heavyweight division. In 1955 he was first GDR champion in free style in the light heavyweight division before Fritz Fleischhauer from SC Motor Artern. He was also GDR champion in free style in 1956, 1957, 1958, 1959 and 1960 in the light heavyweight division, in 1961 in the heavyweight division and again in 1962 in the light heavyweight division. In 1962 he was also GDR light heavyweight champion in the Greco-Roman style.

In 1958 Dieter Rauschbach started at the World Cup in Sofia. In the 1950s, world championships were held alternately in the individual styles. In 1958 there were Greco-Roman styles, but none in free style. In order to enable freestyle wrestlers to take part in a major international event, the FILA held a Freestyle World Cup in Sofia in 1958. Dieter Rauchbach also started for the GDR at this event, which was attended by the entire world elite. He lost there in the light heavyweight division in his first fight against Petko Sirakow from Bulgaria on shoulder and then scored points over Czesław , Poland and Reşit Karabacak , Turkey. But with that he had scored 5 missing points and had to retire, but achieved an excellent 5th place. The winner of this tournament was Anatoly Albul from the Soviet Union ahead of Gholamreza Takhti , Iran, Karabacak and Petko Sirakow.

In 1959 Dieter Rauchbach started at the world championship in free style in Tehran. In the light heavyweight division he went on the mat three times and fought against Lucjan Stepczyński, Poland, Boris Kulajew , USSR and Maurice Jacquel , France each time. With that he had 6 missing points, had to retire undefeated and finished in 6th place.

In 1960 Dieter Rauchbach prevailed in the elimination for the all-German Olympic team. In the free style he won the light heavyweight division in front of Fritz Dirscherl from Kelheim, Walter Müller from Leipzig and Ernst Ganßert from Frankfurt am Main. Things did not go well for him at the Olympic tournament in Rome, because he lost his first fight against Viking Palm from Sweden on points and was surprisingly shouldered by the Indian Sajan Singh in his second fight . He was eliminated and only came in 15th place.

From 1961 to 1963 he was no longer at the start in any international championships. In 1964, the GDR wrestling association used Dieter Rauchbach again in the elimination for the all-German Olympic team. However, he failed to Heinz Kiehl from KSV Oggersheim, against whom he wrestled in a draw in Dortmund, but lost on points in Leipzig. This gave Heinz Kiehl the starting place at the Olympics.
