Career

Ernst Ganßert grew up in Frankfurt am Main and began wrestling at ASV Frankfurt in 1896 . later he also started for ASV Mainz 88 and KSV Neu-Isenburg . He was active in the Greco-Roman style as well as in the free style. In 1954 he took 3rd place at the German A-Youth Championship in Leipzig in the weight class over 70 kg body weight in the Greco-Roman style. This was remarkable because this championship was one of the last all-German championships. From 1955 there were only separate German championships (Federal Republic of Germany and GDR). In 1955 Ernst Ganßert was born in Freiburg-St. Georgen German A-youth champion in free style in the weight class up to 80 kg body weight and in 1956 and 1957 he was German junior champion in light heavyweight, 1956 in the Greco-Roman style and 1957 in the free style.

In 1958 Ernst Ganßert became the first German men's champion in the free style in the light heavyweight division in front of Fritz Dirscherl from Kelheim, one of his main rivals at the time. Ernst Ganßert was German champion in 1960 in the free style in light heavyweight, again before Fritz Dirscherl, as well as before Heinz Eichelbaum , KSV Oberhausen and Erich Wörner from SV Langendiebach. In addition, Ernst Ganßert was runner-up in the free style in 1957, in the Greco-Roman style and in the free style in 1961 and in the Greco-Roman style in 1965. In 1969 he took part in a German championship for the last time, but only came in 6th place in the free style in the light heavyweight division.

In 1960 Ernst Ganßert also started in the all-German Olympic qualification, but only finished 4th in the free style in light heavyweight behind Dieter Rauchbach , Halle, Fritz Dirscherl and Walter Müller, Leipzig.

Ernst Ganßert did not appear at international championships. But he won in 1958 at an international tournament in Udine in his weight class before Petar Cucic , Yugoslavia and Ingrassia from Italy and in 1959 at an international tournament in Savona before Ingrassia and Tevfik Kis , Turkey. In 1959 he took second place at an international tournament in Split, where a large part of the world's elite was at the start in the Greco-Roman style behind Gheorghe Popovici , Romania, but ahead of Rukavina, Yugoslavia, Krali Bimbalow , Bulgaria and Bengt Lindblad , Sweden.

In 1959 Ernst Ganßert lost in an international match against Bulgaria in Munich to Nikola Stantschew (Olympic champion 1956) on points, in 1960 he was point winner in an international match in Mulhouse over the French champion Maurice Jacquel and in 1961 he was defeated in Esslingen in an international match against the Soviet Union against Ernst Niglas from Tallinn on points.
