Horst Heß (born April 15, 1932 ; † 2007 ) was a German wrestler .

Athletic career

Horst Heß was a member of the ASV Heros Dortmund and was led into the world elite by old master Willi Liebern as the first German wrestler of the post-war generation . He often won the German championship, competed successfully at world championships, but never managed to qualify for the Olympic Games. He wrestled mainly in the Greco-Roman style in the middle and light heavyweight class.

National successes

Horst Heß won his first German championship in the Greco-Roman style in 1954 , which was to be followed by seven more in 1957, 1958, 1959, 1961, 1962, 1963 and 1964. In freestyle he won the German championship in 1954 and 1955. His toughest German competitors were Johann Sterr , Neuaubing, Fritz Dirscherl , Kelheim, Otto Schnarrenberger , Göppingen, Georg Utz , Kornwestheim and Ernst Ganssert , Frankfurt. With his club he won the German team championship four times.

International success
