Life

Albul started wrestling as a teenager. After the first major successes, he was delegated to Spartak Leningrad . As early as 1958, at the age of 20, he had reached the top Soviet class of freestyle wrestlers when he finished second at the Soviet championships behind the experienced Boris Kulayev and ahead of the Georgian Nischeradze. In 1957 he was third at the Soviet championships behind Boris Michailowitsch Gurewitsch and in front of Boris Kulayev.

At the II. People's Spartakiad of the USSR in 1959 he came in the light heavyweight behind Boris Kulayev, Boris Gurewitsch and Schota Lomidze only on the 4th place. Also in 1960 Albul could not win the Soviet light heavyweight championship, He was third winner that year behind his old rivals Boris Kulayev and Boris Gurevich. Nevertheless, he was nominated by Soviet officials for the 1960 Olympic Games in Rome . The 3rd place, which he took there and thus winning the bronze medal, was a small disappointment for him as well as the coaches and officials, given the high expectations.

In 1961 Albul was the Soviet runner-up in the light heavyweight division behind Boris Gurevich. In 1963 he was used at the World Championships in Sofia in the middleweight division and came there behind Prodan Gardschew from Bulgaria but before Mansour Mehdizadeh from Iran on the 2nd place.

After 1963, Albul could no longer achieve top positions in the Soviet Union in the tough competition there, which also ended his international career.

He also studied at the Lesgaft Academy for Physical Exercise in Leningrad. From 1965 to 1974 he worked as a diving instructor at the Higher Naval Submarine School (ВМУ подводного плавания им. Ленинского комсомола) in Leningrad. From 1974 to 1987 he was a lecturer at the Mozhaisky Academy of Military Space Travel (Военно-космическая академия имени А. Ф. Можайского (ВКА)) in Leningrad.
