Ranjit Bhatia

Ranjit Bhatia OBE (born May 27, 1936 in London , † February 9, 2014 in New Delhi ) was an Indian athlete and university professor .

Life

Bhatia studied at St. Stephen's College of Delhi University mathematics. He then served from 1957 with a Rhodes Scholar at Jesus College of Oxford University enrolled. From there he took part in the 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome as a long-distance runner. He completed the 5000 meter run as 11th in the second run of round 1 and the marathon as 60th. Bhatia belonged to the Indian generation of Milkha Singh and Gurbachan Singh Randhawa . As a mathematician he taught at St. Stephens College in Delhi until his retirement.

Bhatia wrote extensively for sports magazines and accompanied seven Olympiads for various Indian newspapers. He published the Reebok Statistical Handbook of Indian Athletics in 1999 .
