Israel took part in the 1960 Summer Olympics in the Italian capital, Rome, with a delegation of 23 athletes, 17 men and six women, in 28 competitions in seven sports.

The youngest athlete was the swimmer Gershon Shefa (17 years and 101 days), the oldest athlete was the long jumper David Kushnir (29 years and 74 days). It was the country’s third Summer Olympics participation . The standard bearer was the shot putter Gideon Ariel .
