Hungary took part in the 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome with a delegation of 184 athletes (157 men and 27 women) in 107 competitions in 18 sports.

The Hungarian athletes won six gold, eight silver and seven bronze medals. In the medal table of the games, Hungary placed seventh. Olympic champions in individual disciplines were Ferenc Németh in the individual in the modern pentathlon, János Parti in the single canoe, Gyula Török in the flyweight boxing and Rudolf Kárpáti in the individual in saber fencing. In addition, the men's saber fencing team and the modern pentathlon team secured the gold medal. The flag bearer at the opening ceremony was basketball player János Simon .
