Tivadar Kanizsa

Tivadar Kanizsa (born April 4, 1933 in Szolnok , † November 4, 1975 in Jásztelek ) was a Hungarian water polo player .

Kanizsa made 103 appearances for Hungary. He was Olympic champion with the Hungarian national water polo team in 1956 and 1964 and won bronze at the 1960 Games. In 1958 and 1962 Kanizsa became European champions with the Hungarian team.

After the 1956 Hungarian uprising had been bloodily suppressed, Kanizsa was one of the five players who returned to Hungary immediately after the 1956 Olympic Games.

With his hometown club Szolnok, Kanizsa won the Hungarian championship in water polo in 1954, 1957, 1958, 1959, 1961 and 1964. In 1957 Kanizsa was also the Hungarian champion in swimming over 400 meters and 1500 meters freestyle.

At the age of 42, Kanizsa was killed in a car accident.
