Gábor László Delneky (born May 29, 1932 in Budapest , † October 26, 2008 in Orlando , Florida ) was a Hungarian saber fencer .

Life

Gábor Delneky became vice world champion with the team in Budapest in 1959 , and two years later he also won bronze with the team in Turin . In between he took part in the Olympic Games in Rome as part of the Hungarian saber team in the team competition. Unbeaten he reached with this the final battle against Poland , 9: 7 ended in Hungary, so Delneky together with Aladar Gerevich , Zoltán Horváth , Rudolf Karpati , Pál Kovács and Tamás Mendelényi Olympic champion was. Between 1955 and 1967 he was also eight times Hungarian team champion.

Delneky, who lost his parents as a child, studied engineering and then worked in an engineering office. In 1969 he emigrated to the United States via Italy , where he obtained a master’s degree in engineering from the University of Wisconsin – Madison in Milwaukee , and later also obtained US citizenship. He died in Orlando , Florida in 2008 at the age of 76 .
