Jenő Arhand "Eugene" Hámori (born August 27, 1933 in Győr ) is a former Hungarian - American saber fencer and professor of biochemistry at Tulane University .

Life

Jenő Hámori was world champion with the team in Rome in 1955 . At the Olympic Games in 1956 in Melbourne he reached the unbeaten final round with the team, in which they again remained undefeated and took first place. Together with Aladár Gerevich , Attila Keresztes , Dániel Magay , Rudolf Kárpáti and Pál Kovács , Hámori became Olympic champion . After the games, he sat down with Attila Keresztes and Dániel Magay in the United States , where he was multiple national champions. In 1964 he was part of the US squad at the Olympic Games in Tokyo , where he reached seventh place with the team. In the individual competition he was eliminated in the second round. At the Pan American Games in Cali in 1971 , he secured the silver medal with the US team.

Hámori began studying in Budapest and later continued this at the University of Pennsylvania , where he earned a PhD in physical chemistry in 1964 . He then worked in research in Philadelphia . At Cornell University he then worked as a postdoc in the field of biophysical chemistry . In 1972 he moved to New Orleans to teach there as a professor at the Tulane University School of Medicine. He also ran a fencing school with his wife in New Orleans.
