Giovanni Scalzo (born March 17, 1959 in Messina ) is a former Italian saber fencer .

successes

Giovanni Scalzo won three medals with the team at world championships . In 1982 in Rome and 1993 in Essen he was runner-up with her and third in Vienna in 1983 . In 1983 he was also European champion in the individual and with the team in Lisbon . He took part in four Olympic Games . In 1980 in Moscow he won the silver medal with the team. Four years later he finished seventh in the singles in Los Angeles . With the team he reached the battle for gold unbeaten, in which the Italian team prevailed against France with 9: 3 and thus became Olympic champion . At the Olympic Games in Seoul in 1988 he was bronze in both the individual and team competitions. Scalzo's fourth Olympic Games in Barcelona went without a medal : in the individual, he just missed a medal after losing to Jean-François Lamour in the battle for bronze and finishing fourth. He finished eighth with the team.
