Heorhij Wadymowytsch Pohossow ( Ukrainian Георгій Вадимович Погосов ; born July 14, 1960 in Kiev , Ukrainian SSR ) is a former Soviet saber fencer .

successes

Heorhij Pohossow was world champion five times with the team : 1983 in Vienna , 1985 in Barcelona , 1986 in Sofia , 1987 in Lausanne and 1990 in Lyon . In 1990 he was also vice world champion in singles. At the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul , he finished sixth in the individual competition after reaching the final round. With the team, Pohossow reached the final unbeaten, in which the Soviet team separated against Hungary with 8: 8, but ultimately lost due to the slightly worse hit rate of 64:67. Together with Andrei Alschan , Michail Burzew , Sergei Korjaschkin and Serhij Mindirhassow , he received the silver medal. Four years later , Pohossow took part in the Olympic Games in Barcelona for the United Team , where he finished 20th in the individual. In the team competition he reached the battle for gold together with Wadym Hutzajt , Grigori Kirijenko , Stanislaw Posdnjakow and Alexander Schirschow after victories over Poland and Romania , in which Hungary was defeated 9: 3 and Pohossow became Olympic champion .
