Kálmán Markovits

Count Kálmán Markovits of Spizza and Kisterpest (born August 26, 1931 in Budapest , † December 5, 2009 ) was a Hungarian water polo player .

He became Olympic champion with the Hungarian national water polo team in 1952 and 1956 and won bronze at the 1960 Games. In 1954, 1958 and 1962 Markovits was European champion with the Hungarian team. After the Hungarian uprising was bloodily suppressed in 1956 , Markovits was one of the five players who returned to Hungary immediately after the 1956 Olympic Games. He played a total of 132 international matches for Hungary.

After his active career, Kálmán Markovits worked as a trainer. In 1981 CN Barcelona won the Supercup under his leadership. In 1994 he was inducted into the international swimming pool 's hall of fame .

His son László Markovits took part in three Summer Olympic Games as a professional tennis player .
