András Bodnár (born April 9, 1942 in Uzhhorod , then Hungary, now Ukraine) is a former Hungarian water polo player .

Bodnár began his sporting career in Eger and played during his career for various clubs from this city, mostly for the Eger Sport Club , until he moved to Budapest to study. He was a member of the Hungarian national team at the 1960 Olympic Games and won the bronze medal with it. In addition, he also started as a swimmer on the 1,500 meter freestyle distance, but was eliminated there in the preliminary run. In 1962 Bodnár won his first major title with the Hungarian team at the European Championships. In 1964 in Tokyo, the Hungarians won against all teams except the Yugoslavs, against whom a 4: 4 was achieved. Thanks to the better goal difference, the Hungarians won gold. Over 400 meters freestyle Bodnár was eliminated in the preliminary run.

In 1966 in Utrecht the Hungarians finished fifth at the European Championship, the big stars of the 1950s had stopped and the new players were not yet consistently world class. At the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico City, the Hungarians lost the semifinals against the Yugoslavs, but won the bronze medal against Italy. In 1970 the Hungarians reached the final again at the European Championships in Barcelona, ​​but were subject to the team from the USSR. At the 1972 Olympic Games , the Hungarians again won silver behind the Soviet team, Bodnár was on the list of results for the first time with his doctorate. In 1973 Bodnár played in the Hungarian team that won the first world title in water polo, in 1974 he won the European championship for the second time after 1962. After winning the runner-up in 1975, Bodnár's sporting career ended.

After his sporting career, Bodnár initially stayed as a doctor at Semmelweis University , but later moved to another clinic.
