Olivella is a municipality in the province of Barcelona ( Spain ) with 3799 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2019).
Geographical location
The municipality is located in the north of the Comarca Garraf , in the Garraf mountains of the same name on the western edge of a nature park . The place is about 35 kilometers southwest of Barcelona.

Two minibus lines connect Olivella with the towns of St. Pere de Ribes, Sitges, Olivella and Vilafranca.
history
The old castle was first mentioned in 992 and the new castle of Olivella in 1264. In 1272, the Bishop of Barcelona had a church dedicated to St. Dedicated to Peter, build. In 1429 a new church was built on the remains of the new castle and expanded and expanded between 1607 and 1625. The church, which is still preserved and restored in 1991, formed the core of the Olivella community.
In 1890 the "americano or indio" (a citizen from Sitges who had become rich in America) Pere Domènech i Grau built the Novella palace. The building was to become the center of an agricultural community. However, the project failed after just 6 years. The palace has been a Buddhist monastery since 1996.
