Nozomi Okuhara ( Japanese 奥 原 希望 , Okuhara Nozomi ; born March 13, 1995 in Nagano Prefecture ) is a Japanese badminton player .

Career

Okuhara comes from Nagano Prefecture and has been playing badminton since she was in elementary school, when she was part of the Ōmachi Kids team. She had her first success in the 6th grade, where she was sent to the ABC primary school championships as a representative of the Nagano prefecture for grade 5/6, where she achieved 2nd place in the individual.

During her time at Nishinadai Middle School in Ōmachi, she won the junior championship in 2008 in the novice category and a year later in the regular category runner-up. Then she attended the high school -miya-Higashi in Saitama and reached at the Inter-High high school championships ( 高校 総 体 , kōkō sōtai ) in 2010 the 3rd place in the individual and at the junior championships as well as 2011 again the championship.

Nozomi Okuhara won her first major international tournament in February 2011, not even 16 years old, with the Austrian International. She reached her first Grand Prix semifinals four months later at the Canada Open. In the Japan Super Series 2011 she was ninth. At the Junior World Championship in 2011 she won bronze in the women's singles, and a year later she was junior world champion. Her greatest success so far is winning the 2017 world title in the final against PV Sindhu , which she won in three sets.
