Soundarajan Arokia Rajiv (born May 22, 1991 in Tiruchirappalli , Tamil Nadu ) is an Indian athlete who specializes in the 400-meter run .
Athletic career
Arokia Rajiv gained his first international experience in 2013 at the Asian Championships in Pune , where he finished sixth in the 400-meter run and fourth in the Indian 4-by-400-meter relay. In 2014 he took part with the relay at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and was disqualified there in the preliminary stages. At the Asian Games in Incheon he won the bronze medal in 45.92 s and came in fourth place with the relay. At the Asian Championships in Wuhan, she came seventh in the individual competition and fourth in the Indian relay. He then took part in the Military World Games in Mungyeong , South Korea , where he won the silver medal in the individual competition over 400 meters and took fourth place in the final with the Indian 4 x 400 meter relay.
In 2016 he qualified for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , where he was disqualified in the run-up to the 4 x 400 meter relay because of a rule violation. Before that, he won the gold medal at the South Asian Games in Guwahati in the individual competition and with the relay. In 2017 Rajiv won the silver medal in the individual competition and gold with the relay at the Asian Championships in Bhubaneswar with 46.14 s and thus received a bye for the World Championships in London , where he did not qualify for the final with the relay .
In 2018 he took part again with the relay at the Commonwealth Games in the Australian Gold Coast and could not finish there in the final with the Indian 4 x 400 meter relay. In late August, he again took part in the Asian Games in Jakarta , where he was fourth in 45.84 s. He also won the silver medal with the relay and the mixed relay. In 2019 the Bahraini mixed relay team was disqualified for a doping offense and the gold medal was awarded to India. The following year he finished fourth at the Asian Championships in Doha with a new personal best of 45.37 s and won the silver medal with the mixed relay, while he was disqualified with the men's relay.
In 2012 and 2015, Rajiv was Indian champion in the 400-meter run and in the 4-by-400-meter relay. He graduated from St Joseph's College . His sister Elizabeth Rajiv is a volleyball player and his brother Daniel Rajiv is active as a triple jumper.
