Ehrenfried August Kayser (born April 3, 1792 in Weißenfels , † November 9, 1873 in Berlin ) was a Prussian lieutenant general and commander of the Luxembourg fortress .

His parents were Ehrenfried August Kayser, a rent clerk in Weißenfels, and his wife Johanna Wilhelmine, née Sichart von Sichartshoff († 1795).

Military career

In 1806 Kayser joined the infantry regiment "Prinz Xaver" of the Saxon Army as a Junker and two years later became an ensign . In the Fifth Coalition War he was one of the persecutors of the Duke of Braunschweig's black band . He fought in battle near Wilsdruff and was wounded near Raschen. On February 22, 1810 he was appointed Sousleutnant . In 1812 he took part in the Russian campaign on the side of France , where he fought in the battles near Podobna , Wolkowysk, Pruszara and Kalisch . For Kalisch he received the Knight's Cross of the Military Order of St. Henry . On May 7, 1813, Kayser was promoted to Prime Lieutenant in the “von Steindel” infantry regiment. During the wars of liberation he fought on the French side in the siege of Torgau and the battles of Bautzen , Großbeeren , Dennewitz and Leipzig as well as in the battles near Reichenbach and Wittstock. As a lieutenant colonel , Kayser was battalion commander in the 25th Infantry Regiment from March 30, 1840 to March 24, 1841 . He was then commissioned to lead the 39th Infantry Regiment (7th Reserve Regiment) in Luxembourg . He was appointed regimental commander on January 13, 1842 and promoted to colonel on April 7, 1842 . On March 27, 1847 he became commander of the 15th Landwehr Brigade and in this capacity on May 10, 1848 Major General. On February 19, 1852 he became the commandant of the Luxembourg fortress and leader of the brigade of this federal fortress .
