Maria Prevolaraki (born December 21, 1991 in Athens ) is a Greek wrestler . She won a bronze medal at the 2012 World Championships and a silver medal at the 2013 European Championships , each in the weight class up to 55 kg body weight.

Career

Maria Prevolaraki started wrestling as a teenager. She belongs to the sports club Ethniko Athen and is trained by Panagiotis Argoudea. She is a sports student.

As a junior, she started at eight international championships between 2006 and 2011 and was very successful. In 2007 she was in Warsaw in the weight class up to 49 kg Junior European Champion in the age group "Cadets". In 2011 she was again Junior European Champion in Zrenjanin, this time in the age group "Juniors" and in the weight class up to 55 kg. She also won a bronze medal at the 2011 Junior World Championships in Bucharest.

In 2011 it was also used for the first time in an international championship for women. She came to the European Championships in Dortmund in the weight class up to 55 kg, in which she always started as an adult, after a defeat against Ludmila Cristea , Moldova, a victory over Christine Knittel , Germany and a defeat against Katarzyna Krawczyk , Poland 7th place. At the 2011 Women's World Cup in Istanbul, she lost her first fight against Batbaataryn Nomin-Erdene from Mongolia. Since this did not reach the final, she was eliminated and only came in 26th place.

She did much better at the 2012 European Championships in Belgrade. There she defeated Eileen Friedrich , Germany and Lenka Martinakowa, Czech Republic, then lost to Sofia Mattsson , Sweden and in the battle for a bronze medal also against Maria Gurowa from Russia. It reached the 5th place. In April 2012 Maria Prevolaraki managed to qualify for participation in the Olympic Games in London with a 2nd place behind Julia Ratkewitsch , Azerbaijan, at a tournament in Sofia. She left it u. a. Ludmila Cristea and Anna Gomis , France, behind. At the Olympic Games in London itself, she lost in her first fight against Julia Ratkewitsch and then retired because she did not reach the final. It reached 15th place in London. She then took part in the World Cup in Strathcoona Caunty, Canada, where she won a bronze medal with victories over Joice Souza de Silva, Brazil, a defeat against Helen Maroulis , United States and victories over Nadezhda Michalkowa, Belarus and Brittanee Laverdure , Canada.

Maria Prevolaraki was also very successful at the 2013 European Championships in Tbilisi. She won there over Violeta Atanasowa, Bulgaria, Katarzyna Krawczyk and Irina Husjak , Ukraine, but lost in the final against the experienced Sofia Mattsson. She became vice European champion.
