The Uruguayan National Olympic Committee ( Comité Olímpico Uruguayo ) was founded in 1923 and recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in the same year . Uruguay first took part in the Olympic Games in 1924 . The country then sent athletes to all the Summer Olympics, but like many other Western countries, boycotted the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow . Uruguay only took part in the Winter Olympics once, in 1998 in Nagano .

Medals balance

Uruguay was able to win ten medals at the Summer Olympics, including two gold medals in the Olympic football tournament . The balance sheet shows two gold, two silver and six bronze medals. So far, the Winter Games have been left empty handed. No woman from Uruguay has won an Olympic medal so far.
