The Slovenský olympijský a športový výbor was founded in 1992 and accepted by the International Olympic Committee in 1993.

Medals balance

The first Slovak medalist was Karol Divín (silver, 1960), Ondrej Nepela won one of the two Czechoslovak gold medals in Sapporo in 1972, and Jozef Sabovčík won bronze in Sarajevo in 1984. So far, 25 athletes from Slovakia have won 33 Olympic medals after 1993 (12 gold, 16 silver and 8 bronze).
