Jeong Bo-kyeong (born April 17, 1991 in Jinju ) is a South Korean judoka . She won an Olympic silver medal in extra light weight in 2016.

Career

The 1.53 m tall Jeong Bo-kyeong won her first World Cup tournament in Budapest in 2012. At the Asian Championships in 2013, she finished seventh. The 2014 Asian Games were held in Incheon . Jeong lost to the Mongolian Mönchbatyn Urantsetseg in the semifinals , and the South Korean won a bronze medal by beating the Chinese Wu Shugen in the round of hope. The South Korean women's team won silver in the team standings behind the Japanese. In 2015 Jeong won the Universiade in Gwangju by beating the Brazilian Gabriela Chibana in the final . At the 2015 World Championships in Astana , Jeong won in the quarter-finals against Ami Kondo from Japan and lost to Paula Pareto from Argentina in the semifinals . In the battle for the bronze medal, she defeated the Ukrainian Maryna Tschernjak . In April 2016, Jeong finished seventh at the Asian Championships in Tashkent. At the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , she defeated the Mongolian Mönchbatyn Urantsetseg in the quarter-finals and the Cuban Dayaris Mestre Álvarez in the semifinals . The final against Paula Pareto lasted the full duration of the fight, Pareto won by penalty points against the Korean.

At the Asian Championships in Hong Kong in 2017, Jeong lost to the Mongolian Mönchbatyn Urantsetseg in the semi-finals, but won a bronze medal by beating the Chinese Li Yanan . Three months later, the Korean won a bronze medal at the Universiade in Taipei . At the Asian Games in Jakarta in 2018 , Jeong Bo-kyeong defeated the Mongolian Mönchbatyn Urantsetseg in the semifinals and won against the Japanese Ami Kondo in the final.
