Tessie Savelkouls

Tessie Savelkouls (born March 11, 1992 in Nijmegen ) is a Dutch judoka . In 2018 she was third at the European Championships.

Athletic career

The 1.82 m tall Tessie Savelkouls fights in the heavyweight division, the weight class over 78 kilograms. In 2011 she was third in both the European Junior Championships and the World Junior Championships. In 2013 she lost to the German Kristin Büssow in the final of the U23 European Championships , in 2014 she won the title by beating the Russian Alexandra Babinzewa in the final . At the European Championships held as part of the 2015 European Games in Baku , Savelkouls was eliminated in the round of 16 against the German Jasmin Külbs . In October 2015 Savelkouls finished second behind the Chinese Ma Sisi at the Grand Slam tournament in Abu Dhabi . In 2016, Savelkouls competed at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro . In the quarterfinals she was defeated by the Japanese Kanae Yamabe and finished in seventh place overall.

In 2017 Savelkouls won the Grand Slam tournament in Baku with a final victory over Turkish Kayra Sayit . After a seventh place at the 2017 European Championships , she reached fifth place at the 2017 World Championships . In October 2017 she won the Grand Slam in Abu Dhabi with a final victory over the Azerbaijani Iryna Kindzerska . At the 2018 European Championships in Tel Aviv, she lost in the semifinals to French Romane Dicko , and in the battle for bronze she defeated Croatian Ivana Maranić .
