Alexandra Ivanovna Babintseva

Alexandra Ivanovna Babinzewa ( Russian Александра Ивановна Бабинцева ; born February 4, 1993 in Kirov ) is a Russian judoka . In 2018 she was third at the World Championships.

Athletic career

Alexandra Babinzewa started in the heavyweight division until 2015, the weight class over 78 kilograms. In 2011 she was third in the U20 European Championships and fifth in the U20 World Championships. The following year she won the U20 European Championships and finished third at the U23 European Championships. At the Universiade 2013 in Kazan she took seventh place in the open class and was third with the team. In 2014 she finished second in the U23 European Championships behind the Dutchwoman Tessie Savelkouls . At the 2015 Universiade in Gwangju, she won a bronze medal in the open class.

At the end of 2015, Babinzewa switched to light heavyweight, the weight class up to 78 kilograms. In 2016 she finished second in the military world championships. At the 2017 Universiade in Taipei, she also won a bronze medal in her new weight class. At the 2018 World Championships in Baku, Babinzewa defeated Audrey Tcheuméo from France in the round of 16 , but then lost to Marhinde Verkerk from the Netherlands in the quarter-finals . In the hope round she defeated the Slovenian Klara Apotekar and in the battle for bronze the Chinese Ma Zhenzhao . Two months later, she won a silver medal at the World Military Championships.
