Klara Apotekar

Klara Apotekar (born August 2, 1997 ) is a Slovenian judoka . She won the European Championships in 2019.

Athletic career

Klara Apotekar has been fighting in the light heavyweight division, the weight class up to 78 kilograms , since 2012 . In 2016, 2017 and 2019 she was the Slovenian champion in this weight class. She was second in 2014, 2015 and 2018, and third in 2012 and 2013.

In 2014 Klara Apotekar reached the final at the U23 European Championships and received the silver medal behind the German Maike Ziech . In 2015 she finished second at the U21 World Championships behind Croatian Brigita Matić-Ljuba . Three weeks later she received the gold medal at the U23 European Championships after defeating Maike Ziech in the semifinals and Brigita Matić-Ljuba in the final. In 2017 she finished fifth at the European Championships in Warsaw . In September 2017 she won the Junior European Championships in Maribor.

In 2018 she was eliminated from Kosovo in her first fight against Loriana Kuka at the European Championships in Tel Aviv . At the World Championships in Baku , she finished seventh. In January 2019 she won the Tel Aviv Grand Prix. At the European Championships held in Minsk as part of the 2019 European Games , she defeated British Natalie Powell in the quarter-finals , Luise Malzahn from Germany in the semi-finals and Guusje Steenhuis from the Netherlands in the final . Two months later at the World Championships in Tokyo she defeated the Chinese Ma Zhenzhao in the quarterfinals . Then she lost in the semifinals to the Japanese Shori Hamada and in the battle for bronze Loriana Kuka. In October 2019, Klara Apotekar won the Military World Games in Wuhan and the Grand Slam in Abu Dhabi .
