Shori Hamada

Shori Hamada ( Japanese 濱 田 尚 里 Hamada Shori ; * September 25, 1990 ) is a Japanese judoka . She was world champion in 2018 and second in the world championship in 2019.

Athletic career

Shori Hamada fights in the light heavyweight division, the weight class up to 78 kilograms. In 2011 she was fifth at the Universiade in Shenzhen and won the gold medal in the team competition. In 2014 she won the Sambo World Championships. At the end of 2014, Shori Hamada took third place at the Grand Slam tournament in Tokyo . In 2015 she won the Japanese championships. At the Grand Slam tournament in Tyumen in 2015, she reached third place.

In 2017 she lost to Mami Umeki in the final of the Japanese championships . Two months later she won the title at the Asian Championships in Hong Kong by beating the Chinese Ma Zhenzhao in the final . At the end of 2017, she defeated the Dutch Guusje Steenhuis in the final of the Grand Slam tournament in Tokyo . At the beginning of 2018, she was third in the Grand Slam tournament in Paris . In the final of the Japanese championships she lost to Riki Takayama . In the quarter-finals of the 2018 World Championships in Baku, Shori Hamada won against Klara Apotekar from Slovenia , after her semi-final victory over Marhinde Verkerk from the Netherlands , she defeated Guusje Steenhuis in the final. At the end of 2018, she finished third at the Grand Slam tournament in Osaka after a semi-final defeat against Mami Umeki.

In 2019 Hamada won the Japanese championships. At the Grand Slam in Baku , she finished third after losing to French Madeleine Malonga in the quarter-finals . At the 2019 World Championships in Tokyo , she defeated the Portuguese Patricia Sampaio in the quarterfinals and Klara Apotekar in the semifinals. She lost the final against Madeleine Malonga.
