Barbara Claßen

Barbara Claßen (born November 23, 1957 in Grenzach-Wyhlen ; † June 13, 1990 there ) was a German judoka .

Life and honors

The athlete from Grenzach-Wyhlen became the first German world champion for the German Judo Association in the weight class up to 72 kg in Paris in 1982 .

Claßen was the first female judoka to be awarded the Silver Laurel Leaf by former Federal President Karl Carstens .

In 1990 Barbara Claßen committed suicide . In her Judobiography she dealt very critically with herself and her environment. Above all, she went into court with the officials critically. She was active in the national team of the DJB from 1976 to 1989.
