Madeleine Malonga (born September 25, 1993 in Soisy-sous-Montmorency ) is a French judoka . She won the world light heavyweight title in 2019 after having been European champion the year before.

Athletic career

The 1.82 m tall Madeleine Malonga fights in the light heavyweight division, the weight class up to 78 kilograms. In 2011 and 2012 she was third in the U20 European Championships. At the Universiade 2013 she took second place behind the Hungarian Abigél Joó . Two months later she won the Junior European Championships and again a month later she won bronze at the Junior World Championships. In 2014 she won the Grand Slam tournament in Baku. In the same year she won the French championships for the first time. In 2019 she defeated Audrey Tcheuméo in the quarterfinals of the Grand Slam tournament in Paris, she won the tournament with a victory over the German Luise Malzahn . The 2019 European Championships were held as part of the 2019 European Games in Minsk. Malonga lost to Malzahn in the quarter-finals, but won a bronze medal with victories over Natalie Powell and the Dutch woman Marhinde Verkerk . Two months later, at the 2019 World Championships in Tokyo , she defeated Natalie Powell in the quarter-finals and the Brazilian Mayra Aguiar in the semifinals . Madeleine Malonga won the gold medal through her final victory over the Japanese Shori Hamada .
