Marhinde Verkerk

Marhinde Verkerk (born November 21, 1985 in Rotterdam ) is a Dutch judoka . She fights in the weight class up to 78 kilograms.

Career

Verkerk won the title at the Junior European Championship in Moscow in November 2006 . In 2007, 2008 and 2010 she won the Dutch championship. Her greatest sporting success so far is winning the 2009 World Cup in Rotterdam, the city of her birth.

Verkerk took fifth place at the 2012 Olympic Games in London . In 2013 she finished second at the World Championships . In 2014 the silver medal at the European Championships followed . In 2015 Verkerk won the European Championships , which were held as part of the European Games . She won a bronze medal at the 2015 World Championships . In 2016, when she took part in the Olympics for the second time at the tournament in Rio de Janeiro, Verkerk lost to Cuban Yalennis Castillo in her opening match . After finishing fifth at the 2017 World Championships , Verkerk won a bronze medal at the 2018 World Championships .
