The Palatinate Gw 65 is a two-axle, boxcar - type "G" - with a load weight of less than 15 t and without a device for tipping - subsidiary symbol "w" - according to sheets 089 and 090 (unbraked) or 091 (braked ) of the car register from 1913.

history

These cars are of the second generation, which were used from 1865 and were built until 1882. So z. B. in the annual report of the Palatinate Ludwigsbahn for the business year 1864/65 on the purchase of 100 boxcars for 200 ctr load capacity reported, 20 of which were equipped with brakes. The cost of a wagon - without wheels - was 1045 guilders for the unbraked and 1295 guilders for the braked one. In the annual report for the year 1868 another procurement for the Maximiliansbahn in the amount of 50 cars is reported, 30 of them without brakes at 1,067 guilders each and 20 with brakes at 1,327 guilders each. All of the cars were given new car bodies between 1883 and 1906. In the car register from 1913 there are still 470 unbraked and 137 braked cars listed. It is not known whether the wagons also came to the Reichsbahn.

Constructive features

Underframe

The chassis of the wagons was already built completely from profile iron and riveted. The outer side rails were U-shaped with outward flanges. As a towing device, the wagons had screw couplings with safety hooks according to VDEV, the drawbar was spring-loaded throughout. The wagons were equipped with rod buffers with an installation length of 600 mm, the buffer plates had a diameter of 370 mm.

drive

The wagons had riveted half-timbered axle brackets made of flat iron with the short, straight design. The axles were stored in split sliding axle bearings. The wheels had spoked wheel bodies and a wheel diameter of 1014 mm. The suspension consisted of an 8-layer spring that was attached to the spring brackets with simple straps.

The braked wagons were equipped with a manual spindle brake, the crank of which was on a covered platform. The brake acted on all wheels on both sides.

Car body

The frame of the car body consisted of an iron framework made of U and L profiles, it was attached visibly on the outside. The car roof was flat. The unbraked wagons had steps on one end. The braked wagons also had a transition platform with a hand-spindle brake, 360 mm wide, with access on both sides. The front sides had horizontal planking with a thickness of 40 mm, the side walls a thickness of 25 mm. The loading openings on both sides had the clear dimensions 1600 mm (width) and 1940 mm (height). They were locked by wooden sliding doors, standing on rollers and led through head bars. For ventilation there were two grilled ventilation openings on each side of the car, which could be closed from the inside with flaps.

With the braked car according to sheet 091, the roof was pulled out on one side over the car body and thus formed a protection for the brakeman's position.
